Inquiry into Tourism

Evidence from Dave Robinson TOU 03

just a quick note to remind you and your colleagues that a successful stay/visit to Wales especially in the countryside is the accessibility to clean and pleasant public conveniences.  It is an essential element in supporting tourism throughout Wales and helps to cement the 'we will visit again' view because we care for the basic.  The Welsh Government has shown their support for this approach over the a last couple of years through the Public Facilities Grant Scheme which offered support to local organisations and local businesses to open their facilities to the public, unfortunately this has ended as of April 2014 as confirmed by Lesley Griffiths, Minister for Local Government and Government Business.   The current WG white paper consultation 'Listening to you: Your health matters' has in Section 5 reference to getting out of the car and promoting exercise see below.

From my view point as a resident of xxxxxxxx. near xxxxxxxx, and who leads the team to operate and maintain our village toilets along with 25 other volunteers in the village have seen the benefits for tourism since we opened the venture back in August 2005.  Only yesterday a note was left in the toilets saying 'whoever looks after these toilets do a fantastic job, its a pleasure to use them, you must all take great pride in what you do' for others.  No doubt they will return to enjoy the xxxxxxxx xxxxxxxx again.
